At the heart of a block, a narrow and chaotic plot adjacent to the Hôtel d’Assézat in Toulouse. A diverse environment surrounded on all sides by ancient and mixed constructions. A contemporary but coherent architectural response which reflects its role to “transition” towards modernity: giving in to the “joys of imitation” would be but a mockery. Using brick differently, no longer just as a supporting element but through another ancient and often forgotten tradition: a supporting filling element, allowing the flexible facade to mould to the twists and turns of the whims of the land. The new building is home to the Sociétés Savantes Toulousaines as well as a media library.
