Police Station
From the public space, the building appears to be a compact structure. The large opening on the west side marks the public entrance which underlines the confidential nature of the building project. Through a collection of hollow spaces, the project offers the image of a public building representing the strength and seriousness of the institution, whilst also remaining open and welcoming. The building is located at the south-east corner of the plot. The space acts as a strong urban marker. The collection of nested spaces optimises the restricted views, openings, confidentiality and security. The mullioned facade offers an arrangement of full and open spaces, light and shadow, hidden and protected views. This subtle approach allows the glass parts to be included and frees up the composition to meet the needs for lighting but also security for each department. It gives the building resonance and the ability to react to the light by offering changing appearances throughout the day. The building’s calm architecture aims to ensure consistency in terms of space and functionality, offering a strong presence without being ostentatious. It is a new workplace but also a living space, an emblematic and regal location. Our proposal strictly adheres to the functional logic required by the programme. The building is organised around a clearly identified central space which responds perfectly to the project, with corridors for the public and others reserved for those being questioned and in custody. This functional logic organised into “units” gives our proposal the ability to respond to the organisational requirements of each department. Setting an positive example in environmental terms, the project draws from this clear and symbolic architecture which is part of a changing urban composition. Through accuracy and attention to the surroundings, the building reflects its desire to be part of a modern city.
